King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s coronation is just a few days away now. Many of us will be witnessing the royal event for the first time as the previous coronation took place 70 years ago when Queen Elizabeth II was crowned.
The Queen’s crowning also marked the first televised coronation of a monarch. The same tradition will be followed for King Charles III and cameras will be everywhere inside Westminster Abbey to capture the event minute-by-minute. BBC will be telecasting the event live in the UK, but what to do if you want to watch the coronation in the US? Read on to find out.
How to Watch King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s Coronation in the US?
The coronation is all set to take place on May 6th in Westminster Abbey, London. ABC News and Good Morning America will be airing the event live in the US. Both platforms have announced five hours of live coverage during the coronation. You can watch ABC News and Good Morning America on cable, or on their official websites: ABCNews.com and GoodMorningAmerica.com.
ABC News has also announced that its social media platforms will re-air the event throughout the day on May 6th. Additionally, other major news networks including CNN and Fox News are also expected to broadcast the live coverage. The coverage will begin at 5 am ET and will go on till 10 am ET.
Schedule of Events During the Coronation
The King and Queen are scheduled to depart from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey in the Diamond Jubilee State Coach at 5:30 am ET. The coronation service will start at 11 am ET and is expected to go on for 90 minutes, during which the King will take an oath to serve the people. He will be crowned with the St. Edward’s Crown while the Queen will wear Queen Mary’s Crown.
King Charles III’s crown will be replaced with the Imperial State Crown at the end of the coronation service. Around 7:30 am ET, the King and Queen will depart for Buckingham Palace with a possession featuring the armed forces of the UK and the Commonwealth countries.
Around 8 am ET, the King and Queen will receive a royal salute from the armed forces. They will also get to the balcony of Buckingham Palace and wave to the people. The celebrations will then continue across the UK and a coronation concert will be organized on the night of May 7th.
King Charles III and Queen Camilla’s Coronation: Guest List
The coronation will be attended by the extended family and friends of King Charles III and Queen Camilla. Monarchs from across Europe will also be seen at the event, including King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain, King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands, Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway and Grand-Duke Henri and Grand-Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.
First Lady Jill Biden will be attending the coronation representing the US. The event will also be attended by Prince Harry, marking his first appearance with the Royal family since the demise of Queen Elizabeth II. Meghan Markle, meanwhile, will not be present at the coronation.
