The news of Bob Lee’s murder has shocked the tech world. The executive was stabbed to death at his apartment in San Francisco during the wee hours on April 4. He was 43 years old.

Lee was the founder of the mobile payments app Cash App and also worked in a few other tech giants in executive positions. Over the years, he was able to generate huge wealth for himself. Here is everything we know about his net worth and earrings.

Bob Lee Net Worth

As per sources, Bob Lee had a net worth of $10 million at the time of his death in April 2023. All of these earnings came from his long and illustrious career in the tech world. He earned huge profits from his venture Cash App, which remains highly popular among the public. In September 2020, the company was valued at $40 million, as per Forbes.

A year later, the app reported a gross profit of $1.8 billion from its 70 million annual users. In 2022, the number of monthly active users on the platform reached 51 million, and the app earned a gross profit of $2.95 billion.

Cash App was developed by Lee when he was working at Square, the fintech company founded by Jack Dorsey in 2010. Square, which is now renamed Block, had a market value of $65 billion in 2020. The company generated a profit of $166.3 million in 2022.

Career as a Tech Executive

Lee started his career in 1997 as a web developer. He then went on to work for companies like Capgemini, Redrock Communications, and AT&T. In 2004, he joined Google as a Staff Software Engineer and worked on Android’s core library development. After leaving the tech giant in 2010, he became the chief technology officer of Square.

He then worked at PreDxion as the head of software and at SV Angel and Signal Fire as a limited partner. In 2021, he joined MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency exchange platform, as the Chief Product officer. Lee was also a startup advisor and angel investor. He invested in over a dozen companies and startups, including SpaceX, Clubhouse, Faire, Ticket Fairy, SiPhox, Nana, Found, Netswitch, Asha, Gowalla, Tile, Orchid, Addressable, and Figma.

Death

Lee was found with stab wounds at his apartment by the police at 2:35 am on April 3. He was taken to a local hospital but died of his injuries shortly after. No suspects have been named in the murder at the time of writing, and the San Francisco Police Department is investigating the case.

Josh Goldbard, the CEO of MobileCoin, announced the news of Lee’s death with a statement. “Our dear friend and colleague, Bob Lee passed away yesterday at the age of 43, survived by a loving family and collection of close friends and collaborators,” he said.

“Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article. He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real. We will miss you Bob. We love you,” Goldbard continued.
