It has almost been a year since the conclusion of Outlander season 6, and ever since, fans have been waiting for the series to return to the screens. The historical drama, based on the novel series by Diana Gabaldon, is one of the most-watched shows on Starz.
At the end of the sixth season, Jamie was rescued from the captors, and the group was seen bound for Wilmington. The seventh season will now pick up directly after the events of the season 6 finale. Here is everything we know about the upcoming Outlander season 7.
Outlander Season 7: Release Date
Outlander season 7 will premiere on Starz on Friday, June 16, 2023, at 8 pm ET. The first episode will be available on-demand at 12 am ET on the same day. The seventh season will be double the size of the previous one and feature 16 episodes. However, it has been split into two parts, comprising eight episodes each.
The first part will be on June 16; however, the second part will not be aired until 2024. The official release date for part 2 has not been announced yet. Meanwhile, the filming for the whole season was completed by February 2023.
Outlander Season 7: Plotline
The season will be based on the novel An Echo in the Bone, which means it will largely revolve around the American Revolution. Talking about the storyline of the upcoming season, executive producer Maril Davis said in an interview, “I can’t get into the theme too much. I will say we’ve talked so much about the Revolution coming — it’s like ‘winter is coming’ in Game of Thrones.”
“Next season, the Revolution is here. It’s our biggest season yet. We’re gonna straddle so many storylines and so much ground is covered in this season. Everyone goes on such a crazy arc this season,” she added.
In December last year, a small teaser for the seventh season was released by Starz. It showed Claire on the verge of being executed with a noose around her neck. Meanwhile, a soldier was seen destroying The Declaration of Independence, and Brianna Randall Fraser was seen giving birth to a child.
