Grammy Winner Doja Cat Says She’s Done Making Pop Music, Twitter Reacts

It seems like Doja Cat is done making pop music! At the moment, the Need to Know singer is working on her new album titled Hellmouth. In a series of tweets shared by the famous rapper on Sunday, April 9, 2023,  she revealed that her latest album will be all rap.

For those of you who are unaware, let us share with you, the real name of the American singer Doja Cat is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini, and she rose to prominence nearly 3 years ago, when she dropped her song Say So. Read on to learn more about Doja’s decision to quit pop music.

Doja Cat is done making pop music

Doja Cat who is known for her smashing hit songs including Kiss Me More, Say So, Boss Bitch, and Woman has decided to explore other genres of music. On Sunday, the Grammy-winning musician took to her Twitter profile to announce that she is done making pop music now.

In a tweet shared yesterday, the Vegas singer wrote, “no more pop.” In a follow-up tweet, she went on to say,  “i also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are. I wasnt trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing yall say that i can’t so I will.”


How did the netizens react to Doja Cat’s tweet?

Soon after, a social media user replied to Doja’s tweet by writing, “i hope these comments are not the only thing that pushed you to go full rap…if doing pop and rap is what you like you shouldn’t stop simply because of them,” to which the musician responded, “pop isnt exciting to me anymore. I dont wanna make it.”


Another person entered the comments section and penned, “Nah ur being way too humble u deserve to talk ur shit in the rap sphere already.” The musician replied to the user by saying, “i do that on the album.” A fan had nothing but good things to say about Doja and she tweeted, “Planet Her is iconic! Your verses are iconic! Your shows are amazing! You shifted the industry! WE ARE READY FOR WHATEVER YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE PUTTING OUT THERE! Slay mama.”

What did Doja Cat have to say about trolls?

In an interview with Variety, Doja talked about online trolling, and at that time, she stated that fame has affected her social media interactions but she also admitted that she gets a kick out of confronting haters. Then, she said, “It fucking sucks now that I can’t fully do my thing on Instagram Live. Now I’m being flooded with people who have these preconceived fucking notions about me, and they come in and try to troll. Which I’m very good at handling,”

The Streets singer further added, “A lot of people think I’m not good at handling trolls because I respond to them. But that’s the art of it: I love to go to fucking war with trolls. That’s just what I’ve grown up with; I’ve been on the internet for 1,000 fucking years and it’s just part of me: that I need to respond.”
