It has been almost two years since the release of Loki season 1, and ever since, fans have been waiting for the return of the God of Mischief. Fortunately, the second season of the hit Disney+ series was ordered even before the show premiered in 2021.
Loki season 2 will be a part of phase 5 of the MCU. The new season was also teased in the post-credits scene of the recently released Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. So when will the much-loved show arrive on Disney+ again? Read on to find out.
Loki Season 2: Release Date
Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel Studios, revealed the release timeline for Loki season 2 during his appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con last year. At the time, the executive announced that the show will be released sometime in the summer of 2023. The exact release date has not been announced yet. Owen Wilson, who stars as Mobius M. Mobius, recently talked about the series and revealed that the premiere date could be pushed back to the end of summer or September.
“I guess they have kind of a little shot of Tom Hiddleston and I and Jonathan Majors from Loki season two. And I think that’s coming out end of the summer or September,” the actor said while talking about the end-credits scene of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The filming for the season has already been completed. It went on from June to October last year in London. Just like the debut season, the second installment will also feature six episodes.
Loki Season 2: Storyline
The first season ended with the introduction of the multiverse, a concept that formed the premises for the films Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Michael Waldron, the writer of the show, has now opened up about the potential storyline for the second season and revealed that Loki will cover ‘new emotional ground.’
“In creating the show in the first place, the only way it’s worth doing to me is that we can find a new story to tell with this character. It felt like we had new emotional ground to cover with Loki. That’s the only way into season two. We absolutely found that. It’s a great continuation of that story that feels different from season one and hopefully will subvert expectations,” Waldron said.
Loki Season 2: Star Cast
The upcoming season will again feature Tom Hiddleston as the titular character. He will be accompanied by Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Ravonna Renslayer, Wunmi Mosaku as Hunter B-15, Eugene Cordero as Casey / Hunter K-5E, Tara Strong as Miss Minutes, Owen Wilson as Mobius M. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie and Jonathan Majors as Victor Timely.
The season will also have some new additions. Ke Huy Quan will appear as Time Variance Authority and Rafael Casal and Kate Dickie will star in yet undisclosed roles. Talking about his character in season 2, Hiddleston said in an interview, “I want to say thank you to the audience because, without the audience, we wouldn’t be able to make a season two. I hope season one was full of surprises. And I think season two will be full of even more.”
